Hurricane Florence Makes Landfall

Hurricane Florence made landfall at 7:15 this morning near Wrightsville Beach, NC with maximum sustained winds of 90 mph. Many stations have recorded wind gusts over 100 mph and some places are closing in on 20″ of rain.

The storm is moving WSW at an excruciatingly slow 3 mph. It will continue to batter coastal NC and SC through tonight, moving inland tomorrow morning. It will continue to move westward into Sunday before finally being picked up and accelerated northeastward early next week. It is at that point that we may see some remnant rainfall from the system. In the meantime, we will have to contend with cloud cover and occasional showers from the storm.
