Florence Track Takes a Turn South

The latest data, and NHC forecast track show Hurricane Florence making a turn to the south right along the Carolina coastline. This obviously is a much worse solution for the coastal areas of North and South Carolina, as the storm slows and crawls along the coastline before moving westward and inland over South Carolina:

The good news for us: as the storm shifts south, so does the heavy rainfall associated with the system:

Are we completely out of the woods? Not necessarily, but our forecast is greatly improved at this point. Unfortunately, coastal flooding and beach erosion are still likely along the beaches, but even these threats are reduced somewhat by this latest forecast.

We may still see some scattered showers and perhaps some rainfall early next week as remnants of the storm move northeastward and through our area.
