Low pressure will move into the area today, bringing rain to the state. Across far western Maryland, temperatures will remain cold enough for freezing rain and a Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Garrett and Allegany counties for significant icing.

Further east, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Washington county where a changeover to rain is expected this afternoon.

Even further east, expect rain to develop later this morning, possibly starting as a brief period of sleet. The rain will be steady through the day and into tonight.

A Flood Watch is in effect for the central part of the state, where around an inch of rainfall is expected.

Snow Ending; Windy and Cold Today

Light snow will continue to taper off across the area this morning. As it does, expect winds to increase and gust to near 40mph again this afternoon. Highs today will be in the low to mid 30s.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny, as another clipper system approaches. Highs will be in the mid 30s.

Expect another round of light snow to develop tomorrow night as the next system moves in. The snow showers will continue Sunday.

A dusting to an inch of snow may accumulate during the overnight while Sunday’s snow will be falling with temperatures above freezing, which will limit additional accumulation. Winds will increase again Sunday evening into Sunday night.

Cold Front to Bring Heavy Rain Tonight

A cold front will approach from the west today. Ahead of the front, temperatures will climb this afternoon into the upper 60s to near 70. Winds will also increase this afternoon, gusting to near 30mph.

Showers will develop later this afternoon, becoming more widespread this evening. Additionally, thunderstorms will be possible tonight.

Some of the storms may become severe with strong gusty winds. Rainfall totals of 1-2 inches are likely before the front clears the area early tomorrow morning.

Colder air will stream into the area tomorrow on gusty northwest winds. Highs will top out in the mid 40s.

Partly Sunny, Warmer Today; Rainy Tomorrow

A warm front will slowly push north through the area today. As it does, temperatures will rise into the low low to mid 50s by this afternoon.

A cold front will approach tonight and tomorrow. Ahead of the front, temperatures will climb into the 60s with strong southerly flow. Showers will also develop tomorrow morning and will increase in coverage and intensity as the front moves closer tomorrow afternoon and evening.

Periods of heavy rain and even thunderstorms are possible into tomorrow night. Rain totals of over an inch are expected and strong gusty winds are possible within the showers and storms.

The front will clear the area late tomorrow night, followed by gusty northwest winds and colder temperatures on Thursday. Highs Thursday will top out in the mid 40s.

Areas of sleet and freezing rain will continue to change to plain rain as we move through this morning. Temperatures across Central Maryland are around freezing at this time and will continue to rise. North and west of the cities, temperatures are a bit colder and will take a little longer to warm up.

All areas east of the mountains should be safely above freezing by noon.

Shower chances will continue this afternoon and into tonight.

Tomorrow we will be between storm systems as a warm front slowly pushes north of the state. Temperatures will warm into the low 50s under partly sunny skies.

A strong cold front will approach on Wednesday. Out ahead of it, temperatures will approach 60 degrees in most areas. The front will bring rain and even thunderstorms to the area Wednesday into Wednesday night. Some of the storms could be strong to severe, with damaging winds the main threat.
