Isolated showers and storms this afternoon

Current Surface Map
A cold front will move through the state tonight bringing with cooler and drier air with it but before it does, we will have one more day of warm and humid conditions.

The moist airmass will also allow another round of showers and thunderstorms to develop this afternoon. Today’s activity will be more isolated and will be more confined to areas along the bay. Some of these storms may become severe, with large hail and damaging wind being the primary threats. Highs today will push into the low to mid 80s.

Expect much of the same tomorrow with highs a little warmer than today, pushing into the low 70s. The stronger winds will decrease through the day tomorrow, setting the stage for a beautiful Saturday. Highs will be in the mid to upper 70s under sunny skies, with light winds.

Sunday is a transition day, as high pressure moves off the coast and a weak system moves through, possibly providing a late day shower. It will still be warm, with highs in the upper 70s to near 80.

Warm, dry week on tap

High pressure off the coast and low pressure to the west will continue to pump warm air up the east coast today, setting the stage for another warm and dry day. Highs today will again be in the mid to upper 80s under mostly sunny skies.

A weakening cold front will cross the area tonight, bringing in cooler air tomorrow and Wednesday. Highs tomorrow will be near 60 in the mountains, in the low 70s elsewhere and highs Wednesday will be in the mid to upper 60s statewide.

Sunny and warm through the weekend

As high pressure moves off the coast today, southerly flow around it will set up and begin to pump warmer air into the region. Highs today will push into the mid 60s and will rise into the mid 70s tomorrow and low 80s on Sunday. The high will also continue the stretch of dry weather through the weekend.

As a strong area of low pressure moves into the center of the country, the southerly flow will increase and temperatures will rise into the mid 80s on Monday and Tuesday.

Mostly Sunny and Cool Today

As an area of low pressure continues to build over eastern Canada, dry and windy conditions will continue across the area. Expect highs today to be in the upper 60s with wind gusts to near 30 mph this afternoon. As a result of the continued dry and windy conditions, a Red Flag Warning remains in effect for the state. A Red Flag Warning means that the combination of strong winds, low humidity and warm temperatures will create “explosive fire growth potential.”

The low begins to move south towards our area tonight, it will help drag cooler air into the area. Lows tonight will drop to near 40 in the cities and to near freezing north and west.
