2 Systems this Week: Rain Likely Tues-Weds; Snow Likely Thurs-Friday

Summary: An area of low pressure will move by to our northwest Tuesday night into Wednesday. Another system will slide by to our south late Thursday into Friday.

We start off the week breezy and warm, with highs well above normal today and tomorrow. A storm system will will move by to our northwest late tomorrow into Wednesday, dragging a cold front through the state. Expect showers to move through during that time, possibly ending as a mix with snow Wednesday morning.

Cold high pressure will build in behind that system, setting the stage for a late week snow threat.

The models are in agreement that an area of low pressure will move by to our south sometime between late Thursday and early Saturday. The GFS is the quickest of the models, bringing snowfall into our area Thursday night and ending it from west to east during the day Friday. The Canadian brings the system into the area Friday morning while the European moves it through on Friday but keeps the low very far to our south with minimal impact.

Temperatures will be marginal and with a March sun angle, I do not anticipate much of an impact from this system. Now, if the GFS is correct, most of the snow would fall Thursday night and early Friday morning, allowing for higher accumulation:

Right now, there are too many variables and no set solution and worst case scenario (GFS solution) is a couple of inches of snow on the ground Friday morning that quickly melts on the roads as the sun comes up.

Over the coming days, the impact from this system will come into better focus.

Beyond that, expect a seasonally chilly weekend followed by another warming trend next week.
