Heavy rain continues, ends as snow

  • Flood Watch in effect through late tonight for the entire state (west of the Bay) for 1-2″ of rain.
  • Flood Advisory in effect for the Eastern Shore.
  • Winter Weather Advisory in effect west and north of I-95 for 1-2″ of snow (2-4″ above 700ft).

Rain, heavy at times will continue today and into tonight before changing over to snow from west to east. The changeover will happen quickest in the mountains, possibly by late afternoon and gradually work eastward. By 1am, the entire state west of the Bay will have changed over to snow. The snow will continue for several hours before tapering off early Thursday morning. Snowfall totals will range from less than a half inch east of I-95 to near 9″ in far western Maryland.

After the storm pulls away tomorrow, strong northwesterly winds will develop. Gusts over 50mph are expected in the mountains, while gusts to near 40mph can be expected at lower elevations. These winds will bring in much colder air, with highs only in the low to mid 40s Thursday and through the weekend.
